Take Care of Your Fabric Bags - The Right Way

Pile of Fabrics

If you have been following us for a while, you’d know it all started with our love for fabrics at The Flaire Shop. We totally adore the cosiness of cotton, the softness of silks, the ruggedness of jute and the warmth of wool. As much as they adorn our wardrobes in the form of apparels, they could also be used to design and create lovely bags and so much more. And this remains the core of our creations and design. But, if you’re wondering if your fabric bags would be durable enough, the answer is yes, fairly. While any kind of fabric cannot be as tensile as leather, they are quite durable and can last a reasonably long time if taken care the right way and shown a bit of love. Here’s our two cents on how you can take care of fabric bags.

Wipe your fabric bags with a damp cloth from time to time, keep them in cotton storage bags when not in use (we always provide one with our products) and let them stay off moisture as much as possible. Fabric stains, however, are a tough nut to crack. Wipe them off with a soft dry cloth as soon as a spillage happens and before you could say ‘eeeeks.’ Do not rub them but you can use a non-alcoholic cleanser to wipe gently. This brings us to an important reminder. Always, do carry a soft cotton cloth in your bag. Using harsh detergents can also peel of the natural colour of a fabric resulting in fading. Again, with detergents, being gentle is the key. And, a little amount goes a long way.

The handles and base of a bag also need special care and attention from time to time. If these (handle and base) are made of vegan leather, wipe them with a wet tissue or a slightly wet handkerchief. If these are made of fancier stuff like beads or other embellishments, go gentler to retain their lustre.
